When it came time to change out Caitie's starter studs, which was at six weeks (the starter studs were to stay in at least six weeks before changing into new earrings), we changed them into some halloween earrings... little white ghosts. Caitie was so excited. I told Caitie it was probably best that we change her earrings on that Monday evening, just to see how it would go, instead of that morning due to being rushed on school mornings, but she insisted on changing them that morning, and as usual we were rushing. When I went to take the starter studs out, one resisted a bit, but I got it out and put in her ghost earrings. We thought all would be well, but that night when I went to put her starter studs back in for overnight (i wanted the good quality earrings in her ears overnight), the ghost earrings resisted coming out of her ears, and when I went to put the starter studs back in, they wouldn't go through the holes, and it was hurting Caitie each time I tried, and one hole bled a bit. I started to panic. She has to have earrings in her ears 24/7 for at least six months. It was getting late and I was getting desperate, so I woke Michael up to see if he could help. We got a frozen water bottle from the freezer to put on the holes hoping this would help with the pain, and we attempted to get the earrings in, but to no avail. We decided it was best to let it go for the night. I stayed up pretty late that night looking up info online of what to do; I decided to call the dr's office in the morning.
I made an appointment for Caitie to go in that morning. The doctor was hesitant on forcing the earrings in, but after we discussed it a bit, we figured it was best to try again instead of letting the holes grow back. The holes may not have grown back all the way on the inside before getting them pierced again, which means there would have been a chance they might not have lined up with the current holes, which could then cause bigger holes, or misaligned ones. The doctor was able to get them in; we were thrilled! The doctor said it's best to stick with good quality earrings, not the cheap ones, even if they're really cute. The ghost earrings were cheap earrings. The doctor said the cheap earrings could have been what caused the irritation/bleeding. I'm not able to wear the cheap stuff either. That can be good and bad... good because you know you'll get good quality stuff as gifts, but bad if you see some really cute cheaper earrings you really want but can't get.
I found out you can get ears pierced at the doctor's office; I didn't know this, if I had, I probably would have gotten Caitie's ears pierced there instead of at Claire's. The doctor felt bad for what Caitie had gone through so gave her some starter studs to keep (it's the earrings they put in when piercing ears). I thought that was so nice of her.
I was instructed to continue putting cleaning solution on each ear, as I was already doing, but was to add Neosporin for up to three days and then just continue with the cleaning solution after that. She has to keep the starter studs in for another six weeks, then we'll see if she's able to change them out. I'll make sure to do it at a time when we're not rushed, and I'll make sure there's no resistance before taking them out. That whole ordeal was pretty stressful. Caitie ended up missing school that day, but I must admit, it was a nice day to do so. The weather was beautiful and we had a good time shopping and then playing at two parks... one we're familiar with, and a new one we discovered that day.
Here she is in her ghost earrings. As you can see, she was really excited about wearing new earrings. This was the day before we went to the doctor.
Here's Caitie with the new earrings the doctor gave her (they're in the envelope). She's also holding a bunny I got for her at CVS when we stopped there to pick up a prescription for a skin condition she's dealing with. I also had Bailey's cough checked out while we were at the dr's office and was told it's mostly likely due to an allergy. I need to take her back to the dr's office for an allergy test.
Here are the starter studs the doctor gave her. They're gold posts with gold around a sparkly diamond (most likely cubic zirconia). She'll probably put these in when it's time to change her starter studs after six weeks.
Here's one of the playgrounds we went to that day; it's one of our favorite playgrounds. Like Bailey's new mohawk? ha Gotta love static electricity.
It was cloudy for a while that day... so nice.
Here's the new playground/park we found in the same area as the other playground. It's a really nice area... it's a newer neighborhood; some houses are still being built. The park/playground area is really nice and open. There's a soccer field, basketball court, picnic areas, places to eat on the grass under trees, mountains all around to hike, the playground, etc. If we were thinking of moving, this is the place I would be interested in moving to right now.
There were actually a lot more people there than you see in these pics. It was pretty crowded while we were there. I took these pics before a lot of families showed up.
Just in case you're wondering about the post title... "to 'ear' " as in "to 'err' "; you know... when I goofed and forced the earring out and then put cheap earrings in, etc. Make sense? Don't answer that.
