Mowin' Buddies

Michael is getting the backyard ready for summer grass. It's usually green by this time, but the sprinklers have been turned off in that area for the last few months. Long story. Caitie decided to help out and grabbed her 'lawn' mower and helped her daddy mow what little grass there was. It was a beautiful day out, which made it great lawn mowin' weather. He'll be turning the sprinklers back on this evening. I'm looking forward to seeing the backyard with beautiful green grass again.

A blonde moment

It was an easy-going afternoon when all of a sudden Caitie came running into the kitchen to show me her hand. She had just been coloring so I thought she wanted me to wipe some ink off her hand; this is a normal occurrence. I got a wet paper towel and attempted to wipe the ink off, but it wouldn't budge. I told her it was all right for now and that we would try to get it off later. She looked upset but walked away anyway, but it wasn't long before she was back showing me her hand again. This time I noticed the ink was moving... how odd, I thought. I rubbed it with my finger and noticed that it was wet and that it smeared... and it was red. It finally dawned on me what it was... her first paper cut. I felt awful! I had rubbed her skin raw trying to get what I thought was an ink mark off, but I tried to make it all better by putting a 'Pablo' band-aid on it. Now she goes around saying "paper cut" and "band-aid" all day. At least she's not going around saying "mama is a blonde", of which I would deserve. An ink mark, yeah, right... smart thinkin' there, Lesa. ha

She even told the cat about it. The cat has no respect for me now.

Look who's talking

It's been quite a while since I've used my mini flip recorder; Michael got it for me for our anniversary last December. I keep it in my purse most of the time and since it's out of sight, it's out of mind, so there have been no videos of Caitie for quite some time. I decided to take it out today to get Caitie playing with her alphabet puzzle. She knows her letters, and will usually start placing them on the puzzle board at random, without my help. This time she was distracted by the recorder and also by one of her favorite cartoons, Little Bear. If that wasn't enough, the camera was low on fuel... the battery died after just a couple of minutes. I replaced the batteries a little while later and got a couple of minutes of Caitie out back before going in for dinner. We always order pizza on Thursday nights when it's time for Celebrity Apprentice. Tonight was the finale. I'm gonna miss that show. It was for a good cause this time, all winnings went to charity. If you didn't see it this time around, be sure and check it out next year. I got a little sidetracked, so back to the main topic... Caitie is saying phrases now, and one of my favorite phrases of hers is: "mama, what are you doing?" She asks that quite often. We have to watch what we say these days, not that we have any reason to, mind you(ha), because Caitie repeats most everything we say. It seems she learns something new every day. This is old news, but she counts to ten, and sometimes beyond, and she also knows shapes and colors. She learned those a long time ago. Now if I could just get her on that potty chair...

Be clean, be happy, and jump for joy

Caitie can't stand a mess. For instance, every now and then, well, every other day, pretty much, one or both of our cats will spit up a hairball. We don't always spot them right away, but Caitie does. I think she has a built-in hairball detector. Whenever she sees a spot where one of our cats has decided to spit up a hairball, she points it out and wants it cleaned up immediately. She points at the hairball and says "icky!" Well, this morning she knocked over one of her PediaSure drinks and immediately pointed it out; I asked her nicely if she would clean it up, of which she did, without hesitation. You go girl! :)

Caitie is already learning to stop and smell the roses... errr... well, in this case, daisies. Learn to appreciate the small things, folks.

She's like most other two-year-olds... energetic, and at times rambunctious. She loves to climb, jump, and dance. I'll say it again... You go girl!

Randomness

Some random pics from the last week...

I didn't include these two pics in the last post, so decided to do so here.

Yes, we're at the mountain park again. We're thinking of taking up permanent residence there. Think the park ranger would mind?

"Hey, batter, batter" (Think 'batter chant' here). Caitie is a good hitter. She can hit both the big ball and the smaller balls that came with the t-ball set really well. Now if we could just get her to run to first base, wherever that is. I think the water hose has been marked as first base, not sure though.

A picture of concentration... well, sorta.

Did I mention the mountain park before? Well, here we are again. There were a lot of people horseback riding that day. Caitie loved it.

A new 'do, and beary cute socks too

The 'not so sophisticated' look. All I did was twist her longer strands of hair around a time or two and stick a barrette in to help hold them back while I trimmed her bangs. I decided to leave it that way since it held so well. The one time I didn't care whether the barrette stayed in or not, and she doesn't try to take it out. Oh the irony.

Cute socks, eh? She got them as a gift a couple of years ago; they've been in her drawer ever since. She's been wanting to wear them for a while now, so I finally gave in and let her wear them today. I was hoping to find a cute outfit that would go with them, but no such luck. I declared them her 'fun socks', to be worn for fun and play around the house; she was all for it.

Windy Wednesday

Where are we, Chicago? What's with all the wind? Yeah, yeah, I know, it's that time of year... I can finally tell Michael to go fly a kite and actually mean it. ha We got a kite the other night at Fry's Electronics, of all places. We have yet to cast it to the wind. We're known for procrastinating, so we probably won't try and fly the kite until it's 110 degrees out with no air movement of any kind. If you happen to see a family of three trying to fly a kite in a field near you, in the middle of summer, you can pretty much bet it's us.

Taking an after-lunch nap seriously; she didn't even leave the table.

Ever heard the saying "when pigs fly"? Well, believe it, at least as far as pigtails go; these pigtails were ready to take off. The wind was doing a number on her hair.

"Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water..."

That's what you put when you have no other caption in mind.

She's actually posing for me. I'm speechless.

"Are you pullin'?"

"ummm, No, I ain't pullin', I thought you were pullin'."

Two of the three stooges in action; the third one is behind the little black box. ha

This is the norm around our house. I'm next in line after Caitie.

Green, Green Grass of Home

I've always liked this song; admitting this makes me feel really old! My mom used to sing this song way, way, ummm... way back when I was a youngster, while my dad played the guitar, and sometimes my uncle would sing along. My brother and I, along with my grandmother, which we affectionately call Nannie, would sit on the sidelines enjoying one great song after another; or we'd be goofin' off. Hard to tell at that age, kids will be kids, and this included my grandmother as well. ha But I do remember those 'family music nights' fondly. I've never been musically inclined. I enjoy singing, but I doubt anyone else would enjoy it. Michael can play some music on the piano, but he's out of practice. We're hoping Caitie will be interested in music; no pressure or anything. But it would be nice to get 'family music night' going again sometime in the future.

Here are some pics I took of Caitie in our front yard; isn't the green, green grass pretty, and the 'model' as well? I love the rich green color of the grass, and I love my little gal...

She's clean, cute, and status quo on potty training

Caitie decided it's time her animals had a bath. She likes things clean. I wonder where she gets that from? hmmm This brings to mind a few idiosyncrasies of hers... She tends to spit food out if the texture isn't to her liking. This she takes after me, I'm the same way. She also can't stand to have anything on her skin that isn't supposed to be there, e.g., drops of water that have been missed when drying her hands, or milk that dripped from a straw and got on her hand or arm, etc. She's not as bad as she used to be, but she still reacts to these things as if the world is coming to an end. Poor thing. Even though she has a few idiosyncrasies, along with having a temper, and is determined to get her way, she's a really cute kid; not that I'm biased or anything. Did I forget to mention stubborn? Well, she's stubborn! I ask her over and over again "Want to use your potty chair?", and get the same resounding "No!". She won't budge on this one. I guess those toilet bowl/plunger nightmares have yet to cease... sigh...

March Madness

One day it's 83 degrees, the next day it's down to 72 with a windchill factor of what feels like 10 below. It's madness, I tell you, madness! On Saturday Caitie was dressed in shorts as if it were Spring, on Sunday she was in shorts again, but also ended up wearing my jacket. Gotta love this time of year...

Usually chipmunks are hoping for food, but I have a feeling this little guy was hoping I was into knitting little chipmunk sweaters and would throw one his way.
