The Buddy Run

The AllStar Fun Run was last Thursday. It was just the right weather for a fun run; it was beautiful out! It started around 9:15am and lasted until around 11am. After dropping Caitie off at her classroom door, I grabbed my camera and flip recorder, and carrying Bailey, signed in at the main office, then went to the field at the back of the school where the fun run was being held. Everything was set up and some parents and the fun run crew were there. The kids from different classes were being brought out to the field, from Kindergarten up through third grade, they were the first classes to do the fun run; the fourth through sixth grade classes came out after the first group was done.

I took a lot of pics, but let me tell ya, it wasn't easy... not.at.all! I was holding Bailey in my left arm, along with the flip recorder, and I was taking pics one-handed with my right hand. To get well-balanced, sharp pics, it's usually best to use both hands, especially with a bigger lens, which I had on the camera at the time. Then add the problem of the battery in my camera going kaput after only a few pics, and the fun run hadn't even started yet... I was one stressed out parent. I couldn't figure out why the battery would do that, I had switched to the charged battery before leaving that morning. I decided to turn the camera off and on again to see if that would help, that worked at the zoo one time, and it worked this time as well; I had to do this through the whole fun run. I would take a few pics, the battery would die, I would turn the camera off and on again, sometimes more than once, and when it came back to life, I would take a few more pics; who knows how many good pics I missed getting due to this. I kept the flip recorder going the whole time, except once when it was accidentally turned off, of which I didn't notice right away, so I'm not sure how much I missed, but turned it on again to get the rest of the fun run. I didn't put Bailey down until the end of the fun run; I let her crawl around for a bit while I took pics of the kids lining up and getting ready to go back to class.

Here are a few pics I did manage to get when the battery cooperated... I forgot to mention that my camera is in need of a going-over at a camera repair shop. The shutter button isn't working properly, which is why most, if not all, my pictures from the last few months up to now are not of the best quality; they're blurry, grainy, etc. So these aren't the best pics, but they will have to do...

This is Caitie and her BFF Abigail at the beginning of the fun run...

Here they are again...

And again... I'm not sure which lap it is, but it's still early on...

This is one of my favorite pics from the day... Caitie and Abigail, best friends, holding hands and doing the fun run together...

They're still at it! That's my girls! Abigail is now my child since she and Caitie are so attached to one another; her mother has yet to find this out.

I love how Caitie waves at me and Bailey each time she goes by... even if her hand does cover her face in this pic.

Here's Caitie with Abigail on her right and another friend Riley on her left; Caitie is, of course, the one in the middle. I put their names on the pic to make it easier to figure out. I would have given coordinates and such, but... well... I don't know what coordinates are, it just sounded good... um, yeah... moving on now...

And here they go... Riley on the left, Caitie in the middle, and Abigail on the right, all holding hands; so sweet. The girl behind them was very smart for thinkin' to wear shades (sunglasses).

The fun run is over... classes are lining up to allow 'coaches' (teachers) to get a final count of laps run by everyone and to get ready to head back to class. See Caitie in the background? If not, just look for her name on the pic, along with an arrow, to help spot her. And there's Bailey, of course. You can't miss her... there's an arrow with her name as well, to help you find her more easily... um, yeah... (boy, do i love putting arrows with names). She did really well through the whole fun run. Not too long after I took this pic she headed for one of the arches; I think she was wanting to do a 'fun crawl' or somethin'... not sure. She's walking a lot now, but she still gets around by crawlin' at times.

Here is a group shot of Caitie's class. As you can see, I used names with arrows again, and added a comment as well. The teacher was trying to get a pic of her class; Caitie and Abigail weren't paying attention, which meant several attempts at getting a pic... I can't wait until parent/teacher conference next week... um, yeah...

I took the pic at the beginning of the post, and the pic below, after picking Caitie up from school. As you can see on the back of her t-shirt, Caitie did really well; she ran a total of 20 laps (someone marked each lap as the children went past the start/finish line). I didn't know if she would make it after just one lap, so 20 is wonderful! I say this because it seems Caitie has the 'lazy gene'; I'm not sure who she gets it from... me or her daddy... or both. I'm too lazy to try and figure it out... um, yeah...

I got what I could on the flip recorder, which was a little over an hour's worth of video. This video clip is only a little over three minutes long. I found out from editing this video for the post that I would never want to be a movie editor... it's not easy shortening an hour-long video to just over three minutes... picking only what I thought were the cute, important parts. I tried to get it to two minutes, but gave up; you must endure the extra minute or so of video... so sorry. ha :) Anyhoo... here's the short video clip... most of it shows Caitie waiving and running with Abigail for a few laps, it also shows her running with both Abigail and Riley for a lap, and with her teacher for a couple of laps. Bailey shows up here and there in the video as well, mostly at the end. But do listen for her making a "gulagulagula" sound, and see her sweet face, towards the beginning of the video. Sorry about the video being so 'jerky'; I was recording one-handed while holding Bailey, and taking pics with my other hand, all while moving from place to place. That's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it. Click on the 'play' button to view the short video clip.

Thanks to all that contributed to the AllStar Fun Run, it's much appreciated. :)
