A future rocket scientist?

It's report card time again, which means conference time. I'm not sure how we're getting through math... I'm not liking the math curriculum at all (just like last year). They must be getting second graders prepared to become rocket scientists by the time they're ten; I'm talkin' hard math here, y'all. I know that math wasn't my best subject, but even Michael can't figure it out. I have to learn right along with Caitie and then help her out. I feel for her. But she's doin' good in math, so I shouldn't worry, it seems. Her teacher said she's doing really well in all subjects, and going by her report card, I can see that she is. I hope she keeps it up. :)

I took this pic with my cell phone on a Thursday morning at conference time... which was about three weeks ago. The girls were standing just outside Caitie's classroom. That was the first day the girls have worn pants since last spring (except at our property up north when it was cool out at night). It rained early that morning, and it was a bit cooler out, so I decided we would all wear jeans that day. We have since gone back to wearing shorts. Gotta love fall in the Valley of the Sun. :)

I thought I would include Caitie's school portrait and class pic here; I received them when I got her report card. Remember the stress of picture day? Well, let me show you how the pic I stressed about came out...

Not so good. Caitie looked tired, and her curls were loose, and barely a smile. Next year I'm going to say nothing... nothing.at.all... and see how it goes. And curls? Forgetaboutit! I think curly hair is highly overrated, don't you? um, yeah... anyway...

Caitie played around with the program that comes on the portrait CD, which is what I get every year instead of the complete portrait package. I print only what I want that way, and it saves money.

Maybe seeing this one first will make the actual pic look decent.

I decided to throw this one in to help out as well...

Here is the last one... this is the final view. It's not the actual pic, but it comes close. Nopesiree... I ain't sayin' a thing next year. ha :)

Here she is in her class pic. She looks good in this pic. She doesn't have a big smile, but her hair is still curly, and she looks more awake. Yay! :) She said they took the class pic first, then the portrait pic. I asked her what in the hey she did between the two pics to make her hair fall limp, and she said they did one right after the other. Somehow I have a feeling she was one of the last kids to get her portrait taken, and in between she probably ran around playin' with her friends. She did say they played on the playground before picture time that morning... What the hey?!? Why on earth would teachers let the kids run around outside before picture time... geesh... but I digress... Caitie is in the front row, fifth from the left.

I'm also including Caitie's teacher's birthday gifts...

I didn't do too bad considering Caitie told me about her teacher's birthday the evening before; her teacher's birthday was last Wednesday. And not having a clue what to get, and not having much time to figure it out, I decided to see if her teacher had a Pinterest page, of which she does. So I looked at her favorites page to see what all she likes. That's how I knew to get hydrangeas (as close as I could find to blue; her teacher likes blue ones), and a Starbucks gift card; her teacher loves both those things according to her Pinterest page. I even made her teacher's card with a pic of hydrangeas on the front. Yep, I go all out. ha

Here is the hydrangea in a mason jar. I love using a mason jar as a vase. I waited to add water to the jar right before leaving for school. I put the jar's lid on it and took it off when we got to school, and then added the hydrangea to the jar. Also in the pic is the birthday card and gift card.

Here is Caitie with the cards and hydrangea before heading to school.
