A Starry Safari Friday Night

We went to the Phoenix Zoo last Friday evening; it was the last night for the 'Starry Safari Friday Nights', which includes the carousel ride, a camel ride, two water play areas, one for toddlers, the other one for older kids, each with water slides and shooting water fountains, there was a playground, train rides, the viewing of some animals, and lots and lots of snacks and refreshments. Here's how it went...

The carousel is one of the first things you see when you walk in the park; Caitie wanted on it as soon as she saw it.

We asked Caitie if she wanted to ride a camel, and she said yes, without hesitation. I wasn't sure how she would react when getting on one, so I decided to get on with her. I don't think she even noticed I was there. ha She did really well. Michael took this shot; it wasn't easy since it was dark and we were moving. This is one of the few times I've let Michael handle my camera. ha

Before we left for the zoo, Michael told Caitie about the water slides; she was so excited. I dressed her in her swimsuit and a pair of shorts. She couldn't wait to go down one. As soon as she spotted it, that's all she wanted to do. We had to wait in a long line... when it was our turn, Michael climbed up and I handed Caitie over to him, it was pretty slippery going up, that's why we did it that way, I then joined them. Michael held Caitie on his lap, and we were all going to slide down together... but it was slippery, and I couldn't hold back, so I went first, and made a big splash! They came down soon after... they didn't get half as wet as I did. Caitie wanted to do it again, so we waited in line again, and this time I held Caitie going down, I was going to make sure she got good and wet, just as I did before. And boy did we! She loved it. She walked around barefoot the rest of the evening. We thought afterwards about how dirty the water was, there was no chlorine, just plain water... yuck! We all came down with a cold a few days after. No surprise there. I didn't get a pic of her coming down the slide since we all did it together... but I got this one real quick afterwards. It's not the best pic, my clothes were sticking to me, and all I could think about was getting out of there and drying off for a bit, but that didn't happen. Too many things to do.

We had finished our walk around the park, trying to find some animals to view, but we missed out on that, as well as the train ride, but we did experience yummy, ice cold, snow cones. I love those things. We then made a stop at the gift shop on the way out.

She couldn't make up her mind on what she wanted, so all she ended up with was a mini-flashlight, of which we have lost, it seems.

It was a fun evening. Caitie is still talking about it and wants to go back ASAP! It's too bad those special nights are no more, it only lasted through August 8th.
