Spirit Week

No, I'm not referring to it being the week before halloween... It was Spirit Week at Caitie's school last week. One of the activities during Spirit Week was to dress certain ways on certain days. Tuesday was 'wear green and silly socks' day. Picking a green outfit was easy enough, but Caitie has only regular white socks, so I had to be creative to make them look silly.

I decided to draw smiley faces on a pair of old socks, but then decided to make them goofy faces, which turned into being my face on one sock, and her daddy's face on the other sock; the resemblance is uncanny, don't ya think? (see pic below) ummm, yeah, anyway...

The meaning of wearing green and silly socks is as follows: "I'm not mixed up, I am responsible". I get the silly socks part, but the green, not so much. Is green a responsible color? My favorite color is green, does this mean I'm a responsible person? Me, a responsible person... uh, yeah, right... that theory is blown all to heck now.

Anyway, the children were being taught about how 'character counts'. In addition to the color-coded clothes (just thought that sounded kinda cool... maybe not), there was a video shown and a skit performed to explain character. When I first heard of this, which was from one of Caitie's teachers, I wasn't sure what it was about. Upon picking Caitie up from school that afternoon, she told me and Michael about the skit. There was a white man and a black man talking, and then a big balloon popped, and one of the men said it would take $20 to replace it; that's all she could remember about it. Most likely the balloon stole her attention, so she didn't take in anything else that was being said; she loves balloons. The first thing that came to Michael's mind was Obama and Biden. He thought they were doing a skit about the President and Vice President, and he wasn't too happy about it. He doesn't want Caitie's mind poisioned with anything to do with Obama and Biden. You can bet we're going to the polls next week; it's time to make some real changes, and get this country back on track... ahem... getting a bit off the subject there... moving on now... So the next day I asked Caitie's teacher what the video and skit were about, and she told me it was to demonstrate how important a person's character is.

Hello out there... (tapping on monitor)... you still with me?

Anyway... I'm hoping Spirit Week had a positive affect on Caitie. One of the reasons being is that she's been telling things that aren't so, and stretching the truth at times. I'm not sure why she feels the need to do this. I'm also not happy with how she sometimes tries to play people on each other in order to get attention. But I'm thinking that most of what she could have learned during Spirit Week went over her head. Ah well, it was a nice try on the school's part.

Here I am on a sock... (the one on the right, in case you were wondering). If only I looked that good for real. *sigh*
